How far is Port Townsend from Chimacum?
Port Townsend is about 15–20 minutes from Chimacum — the closest real town to Blue Mountain Retreat. It is a Victorian seaport on a hill above Admiralty Inlet, not a resort strip. Groups go for coffee, groceries, a waterfront walk, and dinner they did not cook.
You can park once downtown, walk Water Street and the waterfront, duck into the Northwest Maritime Center, and still be back on the acres before the kids notice they left the woods.

What to do in Port Townsend
Water Street is the postcard block: brick warehouses, galleries, bookstores, and restaurants in a National Historic Landmark district. Kids tolerate it because the bay is one street over and the ice cream is not a scavenger hunt.
The waterfront still works. Union Wharf, Point Hudson, and the Northwest Maritime Center sit on the same stretch of bay. Wooden boats, the Port Townsend–Coupeville ferry in the distance, and a beach of cobble and driftwood give a group something to do besides shopping.
Sailing is the adult outing. Charter boats leave the harbor for Protection Island and Admiralty Inlet when the wind and skipper line up. Fold it in as an afternoon for the people who want water, not a second full-day plan.
Food is better than a town this size has a right to. Breakfast, a bakery stop, and a dinner reservation downtown are the usual pattern. Groceries are here too if Chimacum and Port Hadlock ran short.

- Drive time from Chimacum is about 15–20 minutes via Chimacum Road / SR 19.
- Downtown parking fills on summer weekends and during Wooden Boat Festival — have a backup lot in mind.
- Most shops and restaurants sit in a few walkable blocks; strollers handle the sidewalks better than the cobble beach.
- Groceries: Safeway and the co-op are in town if you are restocking the house kitchen.
