How far is Hurricane Ridge from Chimacum?
Hurricane Ridge is about 1 hour 45 minutes from Chimacum via Sequim and Port Angeles. It is the Olympic National Park day that fits a reunion: a paved road to alpine meadows, views of the Bailey Range, and a chance to turn around before dinner. The Hoh Rain Forest and Pacific beaches are farther — plan those as a long day or skip them.
You get a national park without making the week a circuit of lodges. One ridge day is enough for most groups who came here so the kids would play in the woods at the house.

What a Chimacum-based park day actually looks like
Hurricane Ridge Road climbs from Port Angeles to more than 5,000 feet. On a clear day the Olympics fill the windshield. Short paved walks and longer ridge trails start from the same parking area. This is the park experience that matches a 25-person house that is not in Port Angeles.
The Hurricane Ridge visitor center burned in May 2023. The ridge remains a destination; facilities change. Check the National Park Service page the morning you go for road status, restrooms, and winter tire rules.
Lake Crescent sits on the way toward the west side — a possible add-on, not a requirement. The Hoh Rain Forest is a different trip: hours more driving and a moss-draped walk that is worth it only if the group wants a full day in the car.
Olympic is three parks in one (mountains, forest, coast). A reunion based in Chimacum should pick one. Trying to “see it all” from the east side is how you spend the week in the van and never use the playrooms you paid for.

- America the Beautiful or Olympic entrance fees apply. Buy ahead if you can.
- Hurricane Ridge Road can close for snow, ice, or incidents — check NPS the morning of.
- Cell service dies in the park. Screenshot the map. Pack lunch; ridge food service is not a reunion plan.
- Count drivers. A 25-person house is several cars, not a shuttle.

A park day. Not a park vacation.
Olympic National Park is enormous. Blue Mountain Retreat is not a park lodge and does not pretend to be. You day-trip the ridge; you sleep where the kids already know the woods.
Most groups who book this house came so children would occupy themselves on 20 acres. One mountain day is plenty. The rest of the week, stay home.
